Bring Your Main Character Energy

From Supporting Cast to Lead Role

The power of main character energy

The mindset of a main character is one of confidence, determination, and resilience. When we think of main characters in movies or books, we often see them as the heroes who overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. They possess a certain energy that draws us in and inspires us. They understand they are trying to achieve something worthy and go after it with consistency and commitment. Adopting a main character mindset can help you tap into this energy and achieve success in all areas of your life.

On the other hand, the supporting cast mindset is one of self-doubt, fear, and insecurity. The supporting cast often plays a role in the background, lacking the confidence and determination of the main character. They are often crucial to others success without getting the recognition and life they deserve. This mindset can hold you back from achieving your goals and living your best life. It can prevent you from taking risks, pursuing your passions, and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

What is a main character mindset

Before I continue here let me just be clear that I’m not advocating for you sucking up all of the oxygen in the room! Here’s the definition from dictionary.com and it’s the vibe I’m talking about:

𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪s𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦.

Imagine a life where you made choices each day that prioritised your happiness. I’m not saying (or suggesting) that you should cut and run from life or even make big choices each day. The reality is you probably have significant commitments in life between family, finances and future goals and dreams you want to keep. Instead move towards a mindset where you are prioritised and hold an equal entitlement to happiness and good things rather than handing it over to others around you.

The benefits of adopting main character energy

Bringing your main character energy each day is all about treating yourself as a priority and recognising your value.

Doing this will help you overcome limiting beliefs and self-doubt. Many of us have internalised negative beliefs about ourselves and our abilities, which can hold us back from reaching our full potential. By adopting a main character mindset, you can challenge these beliefs and develop a more positive and empowering perspective.

Secondly, it can help you cultivate a positive attitude and mindset. Positivity is a powerful force that can attract success and happiness into your life. When you approach challenges with a positive mindset, you are more likely to find solutions and overcome obstacles. This positive energy can also inspire and motivate those around you, creating a ripple effect of success.

Identifying your personal main character traits

Everyone has unique main character traits that they can tap into. These traits are the qualities that make you stand out and shine. They are the strengths and talents that set you apart from others.

Identifying these traits is an important step in cultivating your main character energy. Take some time to reflect on your strengths, passions, and values. What are the qualities that make you unique? What are the skills and talents that you bring to the table? Ask you loved ones, friends, and co-workers – it can be great to hear from others as well.

By identifying these traits, you can start to cultivate a stronger main character mindset.

Overcoming limiting beliefs and self-doubt

Limiting beliefs and self-doubt can be major obstacles on the path to success. They can prevent you from taking risks, pursuing your dreams, and stepping outside of your comfort zone.

Start by recognising your “Inner Critic” and hearing what it is saying. Inner Critics are the little voices in your head that whispers negative things in your ear. If you can start by hearing it, you can then build into challenging your Inner Critic when it pops up. Replace the negative beliefs with positive affirmations; or by asking ‘is this true’ when your Inner Critic is at work.

Surround yourself with supportive and encouraging people who believe in you. Identify the people you spend the most time with and consider if they are lifting you up, if they aren’t, how can you get more face time with people who will?

Take small steps towards your goals and celebrate your successes along the way. By taking action and proving to yourself that you are capable, you can overcome limiting beliefs and develop a stronger main character energy.

Cultivating a positive attitude and mindset

A positive attitude and mindset are essential for success and I’m not talking about toxic positivity here where we find the silver lining in every situation, crush down our emotions or say “it could be worse, I could…” Your emotions are valid and should all be felt.

However, you can cultivate a positive attitude and mindset in a healthy way by putting into play some easy tools and techniques including:

      • Daily gratitude practice – create a daily habit to write down three things you’re grateful for that day. Look for new things every (or most days). This boosts your positivity by allowing you to recognise all of the good stuff without denying the bad.
      • Reframing – when you are finding something challenging look at how you can reframe the challenge. Are you learning something? Is it making you stronger? What is the hidden gift in the challenge. A great example of this is when you’re feeling stressed by all the things you don’t know. Taking a breath and recognising something new you’re learning in the process or another time that you successfully navigated a similar situation can help.
      • Curating your content – Is the content you’re consuming on TV, social media, podcasts etc lifting you up and creating space for play, pleasure and growth? If not go through and review and change your social media feeds (my personal Instagram is almost exclusively dogs), find some new podcasts and stop watching the news (I promise someone will tell you anything you really need to know).
      • Practice self-care – and make it real, don’t fall into the trap of numbing in pursuit of self-care. A lot of talk about self-care (joking or otherwise) is about things like wine and a block of chocolate in front of the TV – sorry this is numbing. The type of self-care for main character energy involves doing something that has short- and long-term benefits. This is especially important when you have children. Hand over the kids and take a quiet bath; go for a walk; go out for coffee (or a wine); or if your budget allows, take a night in a hotel where you can have 12 hours of blissful alone time and read a good book.

By cultivating a positive attitude, you can develop a main character mindset that attracts success and happiness into your life.

Setting goals and taking action

Setting goals and taking action is essential to achieving success. Using a main character mindset can help you stay focused and motivated as you work towards your goals. Start by setting clear and specific goals that align with your values and passions.

Break these goals down into smaller, actionable steps that you can take on a daily basis. Hold yourself accountable by tracking your progress and adjusting your actions as needed. By setting goals and taking consistent action, you can develop a main character mindset that builds momentum and propels you towards success.

Elevating your mindset for success

By identifying your personal main character traits, overcoming limiting beliefs, and cultivating a positive attitude, you can elevate your mindset and achieve your goals.

Remember that developing a main character mindset is a practice, you’re not going to master it so enjoy the consistent practice self-reflection, and growth. If nothing else start taking small steps often because little choices often, add up over time and will help you bring your own main character energy to your story.
